I have to say of all my comfort foods, chicken wings are my favorite. So wonderful are they as bite sized pieces of savory fowl feast, with the right amount of fat to meat ratio. The surface area of the wing provides the utility area on witch to lay many sauces, spices or crunchy coatings. This is the centerfold of the Food Porn universe for me and maybe for you as well. If you enjoy Teriyaki style, I think you’ll like this take on it.

Wings in a vacuum. Vac-uum. That's fun to say...vaaaac-uuuuuuum. Uma, Oprah. Oprah, Uma.
It is a simplistic recipe that requires only a little prep. Home made Teriyaki sauce is easy to make and once you master it, you won’t spend the money on little jars of it again. It requires five things: Soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic powder and water. You may flavor it with other items as well, such as honey, lemon, five spice powder, pepper, or whatever you like. The basic Teriyaki recipe follows:
- 2 cups of Soy sauce
- 1 cup rice wine vinegar
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp garlic powder

Glistening with slippery sesame oil.
Place all ingredients into a bowl and whisk together. That’s it.
To make it into a marinade for this style of chicken wing, add 1 tsp. of five spice powder, 1 tsp. black pepper and 2 Tbsp. sesame seed oil to the bowl of Teriyaki. Place wings into bowl, cover and refrigerate over night, shaking every few hours to keep the chicken coated with marinade. For the absolute best results, place wings into a vacuum canister, add marinade and seal canister with vacuum. Leave in refrigeration over night.

Nearly there...developing color, carmel and a carnival of flavor.
The next day, drain off the marinade and place wings into a large clean bowl. Add two more Tbsp. sesame oil and toss to coat the wings. Place wings on a lightly oiled wire rack (preferred method) or cookie sheet lined with parchment. Place into 350 oven and bake for 1 hour, or desired doneness.
Who needs candles when a smell like that is caressing your olfactory nerve? Your abode will abound with a heavenly wafting wonder and you will salivate. This will give you time to prepare your sides, if you wish. I chose fried rice and a carrot slaw salad. While completing the sides, I find the time passes quicker and before I know it the wings are ready for extraction.
